Edward DOCKRAY of Leeds

In 2004 I rescued, via eBay, a parcel of documents relating to Edward Dockray of Leeds, and have included them in this album. If you have a connection to him I'd love to hear from you.

From the documents I can say that Edward served in the British Army in WW2 as a Staff Sergeant  with 2071 HG MT Company. Edward was awarded the Defence Medal for his wartime service.

Prior to the war he held a driving licence and after the war he worked for Leeds City Transport. He was recorded on the 1939 Register as living at 1 North Brook Street, Leeds, year of birth 1899, and also in the household was Edith Dockray, birth year 1898.

From FreeBMD I learned that Edward was married in the September quarter of 1924 to Edith Crossfield [Marriage Register reference Leeds 9b 844]. Edward died on the 6th November 1955, as evidenced by an entry for him in the UK Probate Register.

Probate was granted to his widow Edith on 9th December 1955, his effects were recorded as £418 11s 1d. Edith may be the person who died in the March quarter of 1977 in Claro district, Yorkshire, born 23 June 1898 (to be confirmed.)
